Abstract

Over the course of this presentation, I will provide a detailed analysis on the effects that multicultural literature has in a classroom environment. I will utilize work from educators and researchers who explore the relationship between multicultural curriculum and the development of empathy. I am going to pair research on multicultural education with case-study results to show how multicultural literature fosters empathy in the classroom. Through the process of unpacking and analyzing these scholarly articles, I will introduce the impact of multicultural education and how it can create a positive, supportive learning environment. Once I have utilized the scholarly articles to explore the importance of multiculturalism, I will analyze how actual case-studies advance this research by putting it into practice. The analysis I will provide of these case-studies will demonstrate how students cultivate empathy and understanding as a result of the implementation of multicultural literature in the curriculum.
