Abstract

Modern Western societies, including the United States of America, are often credited for advancing equality for historically oppressed groups in society, including women. Since the founding of the United States, women have successfully fought for and obtained equal rights under the law in society. While much progress has been made, modern society continues to reinforce sexism and discrimination, specifically through the promotion and continuation of harmful gender stereotypes of both men and women.
