Abstract

The goal of the study was to achieve a better understanding of the mental health concerns of collegiate athletes. Original research via an anonymous online survey was conducted with a sample of college athletes (n=193) at a NCAA Division One University in the Fall of 2021. Participants were asked questions related to their mental health and their perceptions of how their mental health is impacted by their participation in collegiate sports. The goal of this study was to inform university leadership, students, and mental health professionals of the experiences of student-athletes to improve awareness of their concerns and needs for specialized mental health services.
