Abstract

Abstract:

The Psychology of Recovery

The human body is complex. It can complete advanced tasks, run at top speeds, and for some, lift more than twice its body weight. Even with how incredible the human body is, imperfections leave it susceptible to injury. Bones break, muscle tears and the repercussions of their damage can be daunting. In this paper, the concept of recovery is considered from not only a physical but also a psychological aspect. What role does mindset play in the recovery process for an induvial? Through looking at individuals, “the heroes of recovery,” who beat all odds to live the life they wanted and cross-sectional studies, it was determined that there is a correlation between a positive mindset and successful recovery. It was found that individuals with high fear avoidance had a more limited range of motion compared to individuals who demonstrated confidence in movement throughout the recovery process. Mindset plays a crucial role in recovery and can be a beneficial practice in everyday life as well. By engaging in mindfulness practices, an individual has the potential to change how they think and become more successful in their endeavors in many areas of life.
