Abstract

TikTok and Twitter are two of the most influential social media platforms, particularly among young adults. This research explores how TikTok and Twitter impact youth voter turnout and investigates how targeted strategies on these platforms could enhance or damage political engagement, especially in the electoral process. Using quantitative data from the 2020 American National Election Studies (ANES) survey, I compare how the usage of different social media platforms, namely Tiktok and Twitter, affects voting behaviors in the United Stateswhile controlling for a list of variables such as region, income, and education. The findings reveal that both TikTok and Twitter are frequently used. This widespread use presents an opportunity to use their influence to encourage or discourage greater political participation, particularly in elections. By designing targeted strategies that promote voter education and engagement, TikTok and Twitter could play a key role in increasing political involvement in elections. This research highlights the significant role social media platforms can play in shaping political behaviors and how it can increase voter turnout in the United States.
