That We Remember: A Personal Reflection on the U.S. Bishops and Rabbis Study Tour to Poland and Rome
Abstract
The U.S. Bishops and Rabbis Study Tour began in Auschwitz as a witness to the compelling need to preserve the memory of the Shoah. The Tour teaches that it is not just a matter of recalling the past: “There is no future without memory.” The common future of Jews and Christians and the solidarity of all humanity demand that we remember.
Anthony J. Cernera is President of Sacred Heart University. This address was delivered as part of the U.S. Bishops and Rabbis Study Tour, September 2-7, 2007, sponsored by the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding of Sacred Heart University.
