Abstract

The study shows that in nineteen Brazilian secondary school curricula adopted during the years 1838-1942, there was a significant negative correlation between the proportion of hourly teaching loads assigned to science and humanities studies. The results support the contention that the importance attributed to each of these content areas in past curricula was interdependent.
