Description

George Smith of the Bradley Smith Company of New Haven was the first to apply hard candy to a stick, creating what we know as the lollipop. He named it after a racehorse he had seen at a local fair, Lolly Pop. Although, the company applied for a trademark it 1908, it took years before US Patent and Trademark Office granted exclusivity to the name.
