Description

CT claims that in 1901, inventor, Gustave Whitehead of Bridgeport, executed a half-mile-long flight in his Flying Machine No. 21 at a height of 50 feet off the ground. During the 1890s, Whitehead built a number of experimental aircraft. This claim is contentious since many credit the Wright Brothers as the first in flight two years later.
