In 1900, a man walked into Luis Lunch in New Haven in a hurry and asked for something he could eat on the run. Louis Lasses; owner, placed ground steak trimmings between two slices of toast. The American hamburger sandwich was born. Louis Lunch is recognized by the Library of Congress as the Birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich, however, there is controversary as to where the first hamburger was actually created.
