    Description

Not a native of CT, Kellems moved the company- Kellems Cable Grips Inc., she partnered with her brother to Wesport in 1942.  Kellems opposed the country's use of income tax and began to fight for tax reform.  She began with announcing that she wouldn't pay federal income tax and escalated her fight to announcing her plan to cease withholding federal income taxes from her employees.  Kellem's company eventually moved to Stonington and closed 14 years later.  Her tax reform fight continued.  She never filed a tax return and argued that the tax laws were unfair to unmarried individuals.
