In 1975 John Finucane’s keen interest in Ireland, particularly the belief that U.S. news coverage of events in Northern Ireland reflected only the British government/military’s point of view, led to the formation of The American Irish Political Education Committee (The PEC). Finucane served as PEC President and wrote for and published its American Irish Newsletter from 1975 to 2002. There are also many other writers and contributors from all over the United States and even Ireland who played major roles in contributing to the American Irish Newsletter.

In 2003, Mr. Finucane donated materials related to his leadership and efforts on behalf of the PEC to the Connecticut Irish American Historical Society for purposes of maintaining an organizational record and making the material available for research purposes.
