Abstract
The article discusses depictions of student athletes in United States motion pictures, focusing on movies about college football. The author discusses the effects of U.S. involvement in World War I on U.S. sporting culture, along with campus life at U.S. colleges and universities during the 1920s and 1930s. Emphasis is given to the class conflict present in films about college sports, the decline in the popularity of college football cinema, and portrayals of the American Dream. Films discussed include "The Freshman," "Win that Girl," and "Two Minutes to Play."
