Abstract
Cultural competence is described in the health care literature as an essential component of contemporary nursing practice, given the increased cultural diversity of patients. It has also been suggested that cultural competence is fundamentally nursing competence.
The defining attributes of cultural competence are cultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, cultural knowledge, and cultural skill.
