Abstract

Shoulder pain is a common complaint among clients with upper-extremity disorders. Pain may stem from an anatomical abnormality, an acute injury, overuse syndrome, a chronic disability or disorder, or the aging process. The occupational therapist is responsible for understanding the anatomy of the shoulder and for applying evidence-based practice to determine the evaluation and treatment approach that best facilitates a client's successful return to occupational performance.
