Abstract

Highlights: Robert A. Kidera, second president of the University, announced his decision to resign July 1 to become president of Nazareth College, Rochester, NY. Dr. Maurice J. O’Sullivan, administrative vice president, who has been on administrative leave since last summer to perform special research, will retire this June --On March 18, SHU celebrated the role of the Catholic church and its leaders in American life with a convocation on “The Catholic Church in Connecticut — A Bicentennial View” --New major in Social Work --A hand-lettered bookplate appears in over 500 books in the fields of Irish literature and culture donated by Reverend William Fletcher, assistant professor of Sociology. The collection includes many volumes of Irish poetry by Irish poets --Connecticut Lieutenant Governor Robert K. Killian will be commencement speaker --An exhibit of Connecticut artist Thomas Willoughby Nason was sponsored by the University Bicentennial Celebration Committee --The President's Corner --Campus Reports --Faculty promotions and additions, including Professor Sidney Gottlieb --SHU varsity men’s basketball team had another winning season with a 14-12 record --SHU women’s basketball team concluded Its second year of competition with a winning 8-6 record (photo).
