Abstract
Nitrite reacted with indole in propanol and sulfuric acid to form a dark red solution. The spectrum of the solution showed a broad band with a fine structure at a maximum of 372nm. With time, the band transformed into a broad band at a maximum of 504nm, Maximum absorbance was achieved in less than two hours. An isosbestic Point@410nm was observed. Plots of absorbance versus wavelength, concentration, and time are reported.
