Chemotherapy was pioneered at Yale. A patient only known as JD, was the first chemotherapy patient. J.D. received ten injections of the 'lymphocidal chemical' derived from mustard gas. Although, the patient died 3 month later, the modern field of oncology was born. Doctors discovered that cancer would respond to chemical injections.
