Barbara McClintock, born in Hartford was geneticist that revolutionized the understanding of hereditary with her 'jumping genes.'
McClintock is an award winning geneticist. She became the first woman to receive the National Medal of Science. She was also awarded the prestigious Wolfe Prize in Medicine, and the only woman to receive an unshared Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.
