Description
Born in Stamford, Ruth Lucas is the first African American woman to attain the rank of Colonel in the US Air Force. She was a member of the first group of women to be accepted into Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. In 1952, she was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. At the time Lucas was Colonel, she was the highest-ranking African American woman in the Air Force.
