Not from CT, Alice Hamilton settled in Hadlyme, CT upon retirement and was educated at Miss Porter’s School in Farmington. Hamilton was the first women on faculty at Harvard University and the nation's first university appointment in industrial medicine. She is credited as being the mother or founder of industrial medicine in the US and studied toxic materials such as arsenic and mercury.
