Abstract
The article presents health information electronic learning (e-learning) tools for patient safety and care improvement. Topics include the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, health information technology (HIT) promotion through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 as well as pharmacy informatics education e-learning resources in the U.S. such as the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Partners in E program. As the didactic curriculum in informatics and HIT varies widely across colleges and schools of pharmacy, e-learning resources such as those described here provide educators and students access to supplemental tools for both didactic and experiential education developed by subject matter experts. These resources allow schools and colleges of pharmacy that may not have such experts on the faculty to provide high-quality pharmacy informatics education.
