Abstract

Health disparities are problems affecting the health outcomes of populations all around the world. This problem is not unique to the United States, and it affects all nations including those in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Social determinants of health are health factors influencing an individual’s health outcomes and the health disparities that arise. Rural areas worldwide are significantly affected by varying health outcomes due to poverty levels, lack of transportation, and unique cultural factors. Like the United States rural locations around the world struggle to access health care for a variety of reasons, but this lack of access greatly influences the health outcomes of these populations. Factors such as transportation, economic status, access to food, spirituality, education level, and language barriers all contribute to access to health care and affect health outcomes among rural populations worldwide. Addressing these issues now is an essential aspect of improving the overall health and well-being of all countries around the world, especially since the health of individual countries are intertwined with one another.
