Abstract

The current trend in education is striving for excellence in all of our public schools. A major area of concern is that of achieving higher test scores from our students. In the city of Stamford, Connecticut last year; a curriculum was developed for media. This new curriculum was developed to combine media into the actual classroom studies more effectively. This was the first of its kind to be available to the city. The goal now is to take the curriculum and revise it by incorporating lesson plans on the basic skills that are covered on the major standardized tests given to the city's students. The objectives come from the Criterion Reference Test, the Mastery Test and the STEP Test. The combination of these tested objectives and graphing into one, has determined which objectives are tested most frequently and thoroughly on all three tests. Lesson plans have been developed from this information and will be included in the revised Media Curriculum for the city of Stamford. This will enable media personnel and classroom teachers to become more aware of these tested objectives and provide the means in which to present the material to the students so that more coverage can be given to areas of greatest concern.
