Description
Beatrice Fox Auerbach was not only a business woman but also a labor reform pioneer and philanthropist. She was born in Hartford in 1887. When her father died she took over G. Fox & Company and became president and director from 1938-1959. Under her direction, the store become the largest department store in New England.
She instituted a 5 day work week, retirement plans, and paid sick leave. She also opened up the store to Connecticut College for a retail program.
Fox Auerbach was inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame in 1994.
